ANGELL GALLERY is pleased to present “Winter Interlude,” a group exhibition featuring the works of artists Barry Allikas, Bonnie Baxter, Dianne Davis, Steve Driscoll, Derek Evans, Bradley Harms, John Kennedy, Brendan George Ko and Geoffrey Pugen. The exhibition will be on display in the West Gallery from Thursday, February 24th to Saturday, March 19th, 2011. An opening night reception will be held on Thursday, February 24th from 6 – 9pm. The idea of an interlude is to form an intervening bridge between ostensibly larger parts, as in a play, a novel, or a series of historical events, and provide an entertaining, recognizable and meaningful point of transition for those who are following the main story. But these sort of connecting moments can often provide us with valuable opportunities to try and learn new things, and to create combinations that would normally be seen as potentially heterogeneous, surprising, and risky. Winter Interlude is a group exhibition early this New Year at Angell Gallery that attempts to entertain and invigorate our audience with some surprising juxtapositions and new combinations of artists, not tried before; and ultimately to give delight, by exhibiting the productions of some of our artists in the company of others who’s artwork is different by intention and design, but all of an original and unique sort. Featuring works by Barry Allikas, Bonnie Baxter, Steve Driscoll, Derek Evans, Bradley Harms, John Kennedy, Brendan George Ko and Geoffrey Pugen, the show blends together a wide variety of approaches to painting and photography, and hopes to provide an absorbing and playful set of combinations the public will not only enjoy, but profit from as in any classic Interlude.
